applications is silly and nothing else. As if companies did not know very well that the majority of what you have written so there is total nonsense. Nevertheless, should we tootle down in painful detail, why you chose this one company ... is probably not so good when writing down is "I am applying because your company has to offer just a job that's not my first choice, but represents an acceptable plan B". From the ideological stance of the company, one feels suddenly too, to say nothing.
